The Rev. Brian F. Shirey, 72 of Pittsburgh, PA went to be with his Lord on October 3, 2025. Born in Latrobe, PA son of the late Glenn R. and Margaret Evans Shirey. Beloved husband of Debora (Hoffer) Shirey for 51 years. Loving father of Bryce C. (Deena) Shirey and Glenn D. (Elizabeth) Shirey. Proud Pappy of Flora, Eloise, Jane, Lula, Ezra, Ari, and Ruth Shirey all of Pittsburgh, PA. Brother of Ronald (Martha) Shirey, Patricia (William) Borsari, Wendy (Dennis) Stefanko, Barbara (James) Kunkle, Donna (John) Suscovich all of Westmoreland County. Many nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces. No Visitation.
Brian graduated from Thiel College and the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, PA . He was ordained as a pastor in the Lutheran Church in America (LCA) 46 years ago on June 9, 1979. Later he served as a pastor in the North American Lutheran Church (NALC). He served as pastor at the Mayport Lutheran Parish (Zion in Shannondale and Bethlehem in Ohl), Holy Cross Lutheran in Teays Valley, WV, First Lutheran Church in Ridgway, PA, Brighton Heights Lutheran in Pittsburgh PA. Since his retirement he has served as the interim pastor of St. Lukes Lutheran in Saxonburg and was serving as the interim pastor at English Lutheran in Zelienople, PA at the time of his passing.
Brian was devoted to his grandchildren and loved them unconditionally. Pastor Shirey loved to read, listen to music, woodworking and was quite a historian. He proudly belonged to a book club comprised of pastors which is over 100 years old. He delivered meals on wheels for over 25 years in Brighton Heights. He loved talking with people and had a true servant’s heart.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday October 11, 2025 at 11 AM at English Lutheran Church 200 E. Grandview Ave. Zelienople, PA 16063. Interment will be at a later date in Ligonier Valley Cemetery Columbarium Ligonier, PA.
