Evelyn Ann (Jakubowski) Thorne

May 17, 1956 — April 30, 2025

S.S., Pittsburgh

Evelyn A. (Jakubowski)  Thorne left the bonds of earth and went to a far better place suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday, April 30, 2025 after a brief illness.  She left us all devastated.  Evelyn was the loving daughter of the late Stella (Szpyt) and Stanley Joseph Jakubowski of the Northside.   She was predeceased by her older sister Christine Pferdehirt.  She is survived by her middle sister Marilyn (David) Rymniak, her niece Jennifer (Matt) McDowell and her nephew Jeffrey (Sara) Pferdehirt and her Grand Nieces and Grand Nephews Kimberlin and Christian Ernst, and Miria and  Isaac Pferdehirt.

Evelyn spent 46 happy and successful years as a Banker in Pittsburgh heading up Mortgage Departments at several institutions.  There she made many close, lifelong, loyal friends and colleagues.  She enjoyed going to craft fairs with Sally, regular lunches with Mei and Margie and the cousins, Christian's Hockey Games and Kimberlin's plays and dance recitals.  She always maintained contact and friendships with the St. Leo's grade school crowd and Bishop Dominic High School friends on the Northside as well as her wonderful neighbors on the Southside.  Evelyn was intensely independent, had a fiercely strong work ethic, loved her Polish American heritage and basically enjoyed life.  But at the center of her existence was her intense love of her animals.  She treasured her many dogs and cats who have since gone on to "Rainbow Bridge" and leaves behind her beloved "Velcro Doodle Dog" companion Ollie and her beautiful Turkish Angora cat Bella in the safe care of others.  She will reunite with them all at "Rainbow Bridge" with all her other furry friends.

In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to Animal Friends on Camp Horne Road, the Pittsburgh National Aviary on the Northside, the Arbor Foundation or Alley Cat Allies.  We will announce a joyful "Celebration of Life" Event and Mass honoring Evelyn in June instead of having a visitation now.  Evelyn will be cremated and placed in the Christ Our Redeemer Northside Catholic Cemetery Chapel on Cemetery Lane.

Please check the Thomas P. Kunsak Funeral Home, Inc. website for the date and time.
