Helen passed away in her 101st year in the comfort of her home with her family at her side. She will be remembered for her devotion to family. Beloved wife of the late Edward D. McKeown; Loving Mother of Patricia Donovan, Sandra (Stephen) Walsh, and Gary (Barbara) McKeown; Daughter of the late Mike and Mary Turk; Sister of the late Mary (the late John) Lubich, late Margaret (the late Joseph) Ulintz, the late Michael Turk and Janice (late Umberto) Cerminara; Grandmother of Kelly, Dan, Melissa, Ryan and Shawn; Great-grandmother of Dylan, Cooper, Bailey, Brady, Finn and Adam.
She loved animals and at one time bred dachshunds. She followed all Pittsburgh sports and Penn State football. She enjoyed flowers, particularly purple flowers that attracted butterflies. The family enjoyed her baking skills, especially her 6-layer carrot cake and pineapple torte Her many Helenisms will never be forgotten. Helen was an avid reader and kept her mind sharp with word searches. She was proud to serve her country during World War II which earned her the Rosie the Riveter Congressional Gold Medal.
Relatives and friends will be received Friday from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Thomas P. Kunsak Funeral Home, Inc., 3552 California Avenue at Davis Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212 where a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 10:30 AM. Interment to follow in United Cemeteries.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to her favorite charities, the Little Sisters of the Poor or St. Jude Hospital.
