Jean Frances Kunkel

August 27, 1944 — September 17, 2023

Wexford, PA

Jean Frances (Salamacha) Kunkel passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023 after a four year battle with Alzheimer's Disease.  Born August 27, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Edward W. and Anna M. (Valdhans) Salamacha.

Jean was a 1962 graduate of North Hills High School where her classmates described her as a "petite, vivacious" beauty.  She loved listening to music and was a talented dancer, performing on a dance show in the late 1950's called "Five O'Clock Hop".  She enjoyed shopping for clothes and shoes and gave the best gifts.  Jean loved to cook and bake and was famous for her amazing nut rolls and pumpkin logs.  She was an avid reader and race fan, and most importantly she was devoted to her family.  She loved her grandchildren and attended as many football games, baseball games, concerts, plays, and ceremonies as she could. In her eyes they were the funniest, smartest and most talented people she knew.  Bragging about them was her favorite pastime.

Jean is survived by her children, Michael (Rachel) Kunkel, of Saginaw, TX, Lynda Stewart of Gibsonia and Marci (Phil Kohnen) Burkhart of Pittsburgh; grandchildren  Brittney Holly of Ft. Worth, TX, Dylan Stewart of Butler, Brett (Jess) Burkhart of Glenshaw, Colin Stewart of Butler, Cameron Stewart of Gibsonia and Paige Burkhart of Glenshaw; great-grandchildren Avery Holley, Olivia Villareal and Caleb Burkhart.  She's also survived by two brothers, Edward (Elaine) Salamacha of Huntington Beach, CA and Walter (Cheryl) Salamacha of Milton, WV, as well as her niece Lara Salamacha and her two nephews Dale and Daniel Salamacha.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, James A. Salamacha, her son-in-law Timothy D. Stewart and grandson Michael Lane.
