It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joseph E Funtal --a beloved father, pappy, and great-grandpappy--who returned to God on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. at the remarkable age of 99. Joe is now reunited with his loving wife Dorothy, and his children James, Vera (James) Duchak, Joyce, and Joseph, under the grace of our Lord. Joseph leaves behind a legacy of love and strength He will be deeply missed by his son Michael, granddaughters Kaela (Josh) Meyers and Hannah (Chris) Wadding, four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family in Wisconsin who all brought him immense joy. A proud U.S Army Veteran of World War II, Joseph served his country with courage and spirit. While stationed abroad, he taught himself how to drive--a skill he would later put to great use. Upon returning home to Pittsburgh, he began working as an "Ice Man", delivering ice throughout the North Side. He found great freedom in driving and spent much of his working life behind the wheel, proudly serving as a truck driver for Teamsters Local #249. Joseph lived a full and vibrant life, rich with faith, service, and activity. A devout Catholic and lifelong member of Most Holy Name Parish, he faithfully attended Mass and served his parish as an usher, teller, and worked with St. Anthony's Lyceum. He also led charitable efforts as president of the St.Vincent de Paul Society and was an active member of both the Knights of Columbus and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association. Additionally he served as a Chaplin for his VFW #7090. Never one to sit still, Joe also stayed physically active throughout his life. He bowled in local leagues, competed n senior olympics, and became an avid golfer, even hitting a hole in one at North Park Golf Course. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 20th, 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, at Thomas P. Kunsak Funeral Home, Inc., 3552 California Avenue at Davis Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Tuesday, October 21st. at 10 am at Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish, 1700 Harpster Street, Pgh., PA 15212. Interment in Most Holy Name Cemetery.
